As for me, I can\u2019t wait to get back in the kitchen (never thought I\u2019d be so excited to cook!)\u2014and, of course, start complaining about no one helping with the dishes!<\/p>\n<p>Cash had his follow up neurology appointment on 1\/9 at Desert Regional it went well\u2014great news! All the hardware in his back looks fantastic, and his spine is healing right on track. His femur and patella are also mending well. He had a bone density scan and additional X-rays, as he\u2019s still experiencing some pain where the bone is regenerating, and his range of motion isn\u2019t quite where it needs to be yet. But Cash is working incredibly hard every single day, refusing to just \u201caccept\u201d his current state, and his determination continues to amaze us all.<\/p>\n<p>At Casa Colina, he\u2019s left an unforgettable impression on the doctors and nurses. More than one nurse has told him, \u201cYou\u2019re my favorite patient I\u2019ve ever had,\u201d which absolutely warms this mom\u2019s heart!<\/p>\n<p>He recently had his evaluation at the outpatient facility he will go to, it\u2019s called The Perfect Step, here Cash will start an intensive therapy program that starts this coming Monday. There\u2019s no set end date\u2014it\u2019s all about putting in the work and moving forward. Cash is set to be discharged from Casa Colina on January 11th, pending approval for a few extra days to maximize his therapy. Thank goodness for twin-size air mattresses and mattress toppers\u2014they make sleeping at my home away from home a little more comfortable!<\/p>\n<p>Okay, enough about me\u2026 Cash is working hard every single day! He has therapy for about three hours daily, and getting into the gym and training brings a sense of \u201cnormalcy\u201d to his life. He\u2019s becoming quite good at transferring in and out of his wheelchair!<\/p>\n<p>The most difficult part of his injuries is the unknown. But if you know Cash, you know he\u2019s one determined dude with an unstoppable attitude! Telling him something isn\u2019t possible is just enough motivation for him to prove you WRONG.<\/p>\n<p>With this type of injury, no one can definitively say, \u201cYes, you\u2019ll fully recover,\u201d or \u201cNo, you never will.\u201d However, Cash\u2014and our entire family, friends, and support system\u2014chooses to remain optimistic!<\/p>\n<p>We understand this journey will be a long one, filled with highs and lows, but Cash continues to face each day head-on with a positive outlook. Your love, support, and good vibes mean more than ever to us!<\/p>\n<p>There are no major updates on his injuries at the moment. Ortho says his femur is healing, and while his patella is healing as well, it\u2019s at a much slower pace and still quite painful. We have a follow-up with the neurosurgeon in about a week to check on all the new hardware in his back. We\u2019re officially at stage two of the journey. After weeks of waiting, we\u2019ve finally made the move to Casa Colina in Pomona for acute rehab. Cash is in great spirits and ready to work as hard as he can. We know this will be a long, tough road, but if there\u2019s one thing our team knows, it\u2019s how to put in the hard work.<\/p>\n<p>Today brought a bit of a setback\u2014the doctors discovered that Cash\u2019s right patella (kneecap) is torn off. They\u2019re evaluating the next steps, and while Cash has been paralyzed from the waist down, the pain from this injury has been particularly challenging for him.<\/p>\n<p>On a brighter note, after three weeks and plenty of sponge baths, the team got Cash into a special shower wheelchair and gave him his first real shower. What an incredible moment that was! Cash couldn\u2019t stop talking about how good it felt\u2014it\u2019s something he won\u2019t forget anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re set to be here for at least 30 days, where Cash will undergo intensive physical and occupational therapy to help him adapt to life with a spinal cord injury. This journey is no joke, and as we\u2019ve learned, it\u2019s far from cheap.<\/p>\n<p>People have said this kind of injury is \u201cthe gift that keeps on giving,\u201d and as a family, we\u2019re beginning to understand what that really means. There\u2019s no magic wand to make this go away, and no guarantees, but we\u2019re holding on to hope. We are still here at Desert Regional Hospital, but we\u2019re supposed to be moving Monday to the next step: acute rehab at Casa Colina in Pomona. This will be the start of the next part of Cash\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n<p>It has been a battle, and nothing about this process has been easy. We\u2019re taking things day by day and deeply appreciate all the support for Cash. We remain very optimistic. With spinal cord injuries, there\u2019s no guarantee of regaining function or movement below the point of injury, but Cash has some muscles that are firing, so we are holding on to hope.<\/p>\n<p>Once we get to Casa Colina, Cash will begin the intense therapy needed to prepare for the next steps. The focus will be on working with the muscles that are firing to see if we can get them functioning again. While tightening a part at the back of his vehicle, Cash was struck from behind by another driver who fled the scene, leaving Cash to face his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the collision, Cash sustained a broken femur and a spinal cord injury. He was quickly transported to Desert Regional Hospital, where surgeons performed an operation to stabilize both his spinal cord and femur. Specifically, his spine was stabilized from T11 to L2. Unfortunately, Cash currently has no feeling or movement from the injury downward. As of now Cash\u2019s prognosis is unknown as his injury to his spinal cord is incomplete.<\/p>\n<p>As a resident of Acton, CA, Cash grew up racing downhill mountain bikes. Not only was he a National Champion in Downhill Mountain Biking but also one of the rising stars of the sport. He was set to compete in his first full year of World Cup racing in 2025 with a factory sponsorship, racing the entire World Cup series in Europe, along with several races in the U.S. Cash\u2019s impressive accomplishments also include multiple podium finishes in national and regional events, solidifying his place as one of the sport\u2019s brightest talents. He has proudly represented top brands, including Commencal, TLD, Wrench N Roll, TRP, Crankbrothers, Ice Recovery, Renthal, Schwalbe, Ohlins, Goliath Industries and GoPro.<\/p>\n<p>Cash is in need of a lot of support as he faces one of the toughest challenges of his young life.
