This motocross reunion will be a fundraiser for Road 2 Recovery; as you may already know\, this non-profit helps injured motorcycle racers with finances and resources due to their racing injuries. This will be a Northern California Motocross Reunion in conjunction with the Santa Cruz Ridge Runners motorcycle club. There will be an optional mountain bike ride in the afternoon (12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) as well as an optional shotgun scramble golf tournament from 10 a.m. – 2:30 P.M. The main event of the reunion will be from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. which will showcase Vintage Motorcycles\, along with interviews and storytelling directly from the stars of the ’70s and ’80s.  A BBQ tri-tip dinner will be provided at $100/per person down by the BBQ area. In addition\, she broke her back due to brittle bones not long after her diagnosis. It’s now been 5-months since her accident\, and a little less than that since starting her chemo treatments. She’s currently doing a lot better with her back\, and has relearned to walk\, and can now take care of herself which is awesome! She finished her main chemo treatment\, but the cancer hasn’t fully disappeared so they’re keeping her on a three-week maintenance cycle to see if that helps. Unfortunately\, she wasn’t able to complete her last treatment due to results from her last echocardiogram\, so now she’s having to see a cardiologist to make sure her heart is able to handle the treatment before we move forward. \n \nThe good news is we have her scheduled to go to MD Anderson in Houston\, Texas at the end of October for a second opinion and she’s staying positive and working towards rebuilding her strength. This is where I went for my treatments and we feel it’s the best place to go in the world! They have a lot of trials and advanced medicine that can possibly help her out. Of course\, we’ve also had an amazing support system and we are so overwhelmed and thankful to everyone that has stepped up in so many ways to help. Our kids and family have gone above and beyond to help take care of her during this time. We’ve had amazing close friends such as Cody Miller (from CM Offroad)\, who surprised us by donating and building up a KTM 150 from the ground up with help from the sponsors listed below specifically for the purpose of raffling it off to help raise funds for the battle we have in front of us. DESCRIPTION:Vintage Iron owner Rick Doughty\, recently lost his son Max to the devastating effects of depression. In Max’s honor\, he has reached out to Road 2 Recover to create an event designed to generate funds specifically geared for injured riders and racers that may need the resources to deal with the onslaught of depression. \nFighting the Dark\nDepression is so much more than the disappointment of not making the podium or being side lined with an injury. Depression may start with harmless disappointment but unchecked it can advance like many other illnesses\, to the point that it becomes debilitating or even fatal. Depression is not the result of a negative attitude but quite the opposite. Upbeat\, positive people can succumb to the overwhelming effects. The real physical manifestations are many. Distortion of thinking / reason\, body /joint pain\, appetite loss and worst of all\, loss of hope. \nPeople don’t choose to be depressed but they can choose how to combat it. Joining together it is a winnable fight. The life you save may one day be your own or someone you love. \n \nEvent\nThe First Annual Max Matters Motocross is scheduled for Sunday\, October 4th and will be hosted at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino CA. Classes will include 85cc and up\, vintage to modern\, young to not so young. The hillside course will be challenging but deliberately accommodating to all skill levels. Entry fees for Members receive the first entry for $35 and subsequent entries are $20. Non-members receive the first entry for $45 and subsequent entries are $20. Registration and fees are handled at the event. American Retrocross will be the host club organizing the event.
